LingvallaTerms of use

These terms apply when you use Lingvalla: the apps for Android and iPhone, the web app at app.lingvalla.com and this website. Lingvalla is provided by Brian Vilhelmsen, [Postal address to be confirmed] ("we", "us"). By creating an account you agree to these terms. If you're a consumer, nothing here limits the rights you have under the law of the country you live in.
1. The service
Lingvalla helps you learn languages with stories written for you by an AI model, a word hoard of the words you look up, spaced-repetition training, workouts and hands-free voyages. We keep improving it, so features may change.
2. Your account
You must be 16 or older. Give a valid email address, keep your password to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has used your account. An account is for one person.
3. Subscriptions and payment
- Writing stories requires a subscription. Plans and prices are shown in the app and on lingvalla.com, including VAT.
- You subscribe and pay through Google Play or the App Store. Their terms apply to payment, renewals and refunds, and you manage or cancel your subscription there.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. When you cancel, your plan continues until the end of the period you've paid for.
- Each plan includes a number of stories per billing month. A short story counts as 1, a medium one as 2 and a long one as 3. Unused stories don't carry over. Re-reading stories, training and your word hoard are not limited.
- If we offer a free trial, it's once per person, and the subscription starts when the trial ends unless you cancel before.
- If we change a price, we'll tell you in advance, and the change applies from your next renewal. You can cancel before then.
4. AI-written content
Stories, translations, explanations and narration are generated by AI. They are usually accurate, but they can contain mistakes, and they're for learning, not professional, medical, legal or other advice. Stories are fiction, even when they draw on details from your profile.
5. Acceptable use
Don't misuse Lingvalla. In particular, don't:
- try to get around story limits, rate limits or security measures;
- use automated tools to access, copy or scrape the service;
- try to make the AI produce illegal, hateful or sexual content involving minors;
- disrupt the service or other users, or reverse engineer it except where the law allows.
6. Your content and ours
What you write, such as your profile and the sentences you practise, stays yours. You allow us to store and process it to provide the service, as described in the privacy policy. The stories written for you are yours to read, keep and share for personal, non-commercial use. The app, its design, the coaches and our other material belong to us.
7. Availability
We work to keep Lingvalla available and your data safe, but we can't promise the service will always be uninterrupted or error-free. We may need to pause it for maintenance.
8. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time; see Delete your account. Deleting it doesn't cancel a store subscription, so cancel that in Google Play or the App Store too. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, and we'll tell you why unless the law prevents us.
9. Liability
We are liable as the law requires for harm we cause intentionally or through gross negligence, and for death or personal injury. Otherwise, to the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect losses, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected.
10. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll tell you at least 30 days in advance in the app or by email. If you don't agree, you can cancel before the change takes effect.
11. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by Czech law. If you're a consumer in the EU, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country and can bring a claim there. We'd rather solve problems directly, so please contact us first at brian@lingvalla.com.
